At present, China’s urban construction has shifted from focusing on speed and construction to concentrating on innovation, ecology and smart construction generating huge market requirements and opportunities. Virtual technologies and IoT are adding new perspectives to design as well as operation - on building, district and urban level. In the Chinese market, there is a desire for German technology products and engineering services to help rising to the challenges of today‘s and tomorrow‘s urban life.

Therefor Fraunhofer Gesellschaft and Shanghai Jiao Tong University has jointly established the Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Urban Eco-Development at SJTU，which is led by IBP, in cooperation with other institutes under BAU, to undertake order-based research tasks, promote Fraunhofer's existing research achievements, promote exchanges and cooperation between China and Germany in the fields of digital city, smart energy, green building, ecological environment, energy saving and emission reduction, digital twin, smart infrastructure and other research areas, and actively expand opportunities to establish cooperation with top Chinese universities and enterprises.
