Competences
The Fraunhofer Building Innovation Alliance BAU is one of Fraunhofer's ten business alliances and consists of 12 institutes in the field of urban ecology and smart technology.
The lead institute of BAU is Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics IBP. As the oldest Fraunhofer institute, IBP is currently the top applied research institute in the field of architecture and urban planning, with outstanding achievements in the fields of environmental and human comfort control in buildings, vehicles and aircraft, new energy and materials in the field of building engineering, as well as related technologies in digital simulation and AI.
Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Automation IFF is another important institute member of the BAU. As a technology and research partner for German Industry 4.0 companies, the Elbedome Digital Simulation Lab developed by IFF is a core technology for German Industry 4.0 and a demonstration site for innovation in German companies, and has been dedicated to helping shape a new era of industrial digitization and automation since its construction.
